On Wednesday the ONS confirmed we are back in recession. On paper this doesn’t change anything because there hasn’t been any real growth since the ‘emergency budget’. But it venerates a smug Ed Balls and makes his counterpart’s November 2010 statement laughable:
“We took decisive action. Now the independent OBR have confirmed that the British recovery is on track, our public finances are on the mend, our debt is under control, employment is growing and our economy is rebalancing.”
The announcement is a great chance for lefties to sit back and gloat that ‘we where right all along’. It’s in this spirit that I dreamed up the Double Dip Martini for you to enjoy while the Tories are ridiculed for their remarkable achievement.
1 shot gin
1 shot vodka
1/8 shot dry vermouth
A Martini with double the booze and both garnishes. Shake the vermouth with ice and drain it away. Shake the gin and vodka together with the coated ice and strain into a Martini glass. Fiscally contract an olive and some lemon peel on a cocktail stick and use this for a garnish.
